Contemplating: Mass Comm Vs. Marketing

Here’s a brief SWOT analysis (ooh,, soo commerce!) of the two courses, as far as I can see it, being immersed with both courses.

Ayy… nako nakakatamad magSWOT.. hehe…SWOT means, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Magandang module yan to assess anything and it could aid decision making.. wow isa yan sa natutunan ko sa Commerce.

Ang lamang lang naman talaga ng Marketing stdents is that they know about the terminologies. 4Ps (product, place, promotion, price), push and pull strategies of marketing, the bicycle concept, USP(unique selling proposition), brand positioning, ST(segment, target) and so on and so forth…….. lahat ng mga yan, very relevant sa field of business…

Pero lahat din yan, pwede mabasa sa libro. Haayy.. disappointed talaga ako nung unang years ko as a LiaCom dahil I don’t feel na competent magturo ang ibang professors sa Commerce. Alam mo yun, kahit may syllabus, parang walang framework parin? Ewan di ko talaga magets yung mga teaching style nila. O baka naman hindi lang talaga ako masyadong interesado? Hehehe

The point is that “they” the marketing faculty is trying to push the idea of not spoon feeding daw the students,,, sa bagay on my part, I could have read more books to maximize my knowledge… pero I don’t. kasi nga, hindi ako nachachallenge sa Marketing…

As in, wala talaga akong nakikitang kumpetisyon, hindi tulad sa Mass Comm, hanep, lahat nagcocompete. Hahaha..

Maganda rin kasi yung may ere ng kompetisyon eh…

Ang lamang ng Mass Comm, parang ramdam mo na isa kang member of the society.. you.. who needs to take action.. you who have the power to change and transform the lives of other people.. ganoon.. kumbaga marketing in a social relevant way…

Sobrang imbibed samin ang salitang “ADVOCACY”.. we are truly working with the annual theme of the school, at talga namang maipagmamalaki ang mga gawa ng students…

Bakit? Kasi nga may social relevance! Eh kung sa commerce ba naman, may social relevance at hindi puro profit ang pinaguusapan, edi siguro, binabandera na ng Commerce Faculty mga works ng estudyante….

Nakakatawa nga sa commerce eh. Non-sense yung mga event nila, pero wag ka, sila ang may pinakamalaking perang dinadala sa school (fund raising events).. sila yung mahilig sa mga beauty pageant, mga battle of the bands, the concert.. ganon…. Hahaha.. pero maganda rin yung ibang commerce kasi nagsysymposium sila about economic reforms.. (hmm, bow to Ibead)…

Masscomm? Nako! May sympo ba kayo? Wala! Sos! Wlang kwenta, although we have the skills, nakulong kami sa framework ng eskwelahan na ang dapat lang namin gawin ay para lamang sa apat na sulok ng silid-aralan, although it changes when you start competing your works in contests….

Hay… ngayon gagraduate na sila, at maiiwan akong stuck sa Marketing. Naiisip ko gusto ko narin grumaduate. Maghanap ng trabaho, the problem, wala akong diploma.. hayyy…

Wala naman akong masasabi sa Mass Comm at tinatamad narin akong magexplain ng good points and bad points ng mass comm.. read rain's blog nalang siguro dahil marami syang rants about the department..
