my new set of eyes

BLIND FOR 3 WEEKS

maybe its the reason why i haven't updated my blog since Christmas...

yes, i lost my pair of contact lenses and i basically looked like this for 3 weeks..

diane trying to read a font size 12 text

so some might say, why dont you wear glasses, trying to act smart and so know- it-all, not minding the real cause why i have to wear HARD CONTACT lenses.

I knew God made us differently, but why do I have to be different in the sense that i have a illness that can be found in one person in a million. yes, i am one in a million!

KERATOCONUS 101

from Wikipedia.com:

Keratoconus (from Greek: kerato- horn, cornea; and konos cone), is a degenerative disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a more conical shape than its normal gradual curve.

Keratoconus can cause substantial distortion of vision, with multiple images, streaking and sensitivity to light all often reported by the patient. It is typically diagnosed in the patient's adolescent years and attains its most severe state in the twenties and thirties. If afflicting both eyes, the deterioration in vision can affect the patient's ability to drive a car or read normal print. In most cases, corrective lenses are effective enough to allow the patient to continue to drive legally and likewise function normally. Further progression of the disease may require surgery including corneal transplantation. However, despite the disease's unpredictable course, keratoconus can often be successfully managed with little or no impairment to the patient's quality of life.

Keratoconus is the most common dystrophy of the cornea, affecting around one person in a thousand. It seems to occur in populations throughout the world, although it occurs more frequently in certain ethnic groups. The exact cause of keratoconus is uncertain, but has been associated with enzyme activity within the cornea. A genetic link seems likely, as the incidence rate is greater if a family member has been diagnosed.

One in a thousand

Okay, so im one in a thousand, not in a million, but the hell! why do it have to be me!? why?!!

But then, i had this illness for 5 years now (i started losing clear visions when i was in 1st year college) and i started to embrace this illness nalang.

I wanted to have laser treatments (Lasik) for about a P100,000.00 but then when i consulted my opthalmologist, hindi kaya ng laser treatment yung eyes ko.

Mahina ang cornea ko mismo, ang magiging treatment lang ay corneal transplant or silicone transplant, wherein parang contact lens ilalagay sa ilalim ng mata to support yung weak corneas ko.

My New Pair Of EYES

I used to order lenses from my opthalmologist. and the price: P4000 left and right!!

ang layo layo pa ng pick up point, sa Metropolitan Hospital.. hay buhay.
So during the holidays, sarado din yung mga pagawaan ng lenses and resume is Jan 3, meaning Jan 15 ko pa daw makukuha lens ko.

Naku, hindi pwede kasi pasukan na on Jan 5..So i went to SM Bacoor and checked out Eye Stores. First Executive Optical, ganoon din matagal pa pwede makuha, then IDEAL VISION.

The people were very accomadating and the lenses are available for pick up on Jan 9 daw! Plus P2000 lang, both left and right na! imagine, 50% ang nasave ko, very accessible pa sakin!

Grabeh talaga thank you IDEAL VISION FOR MY NEW SET OF EYES.

Jan8 napickup na ni Jed yung lens ko, earlier than expected. Plus my free contact lens holder and a small bottle of solution! yes! hindi ko na kelangang dalhin sa school yung mucho bottle ko ng solution!

grabeh, im promoting IDEAL VISION talaga... and now! life goes on again, na may mata na ako! yey!
